Recently graduating, you are slowly plunged into a new world where there are no student discounts. The cinema now is extortionate, and it also means one drink less on a night out, now that its a bit more to get into clubs. However, it is not all doom and gloom; a Young Persons Railcard is a worthy investment indeed especially if you find yourself travelling around by train for interviews or occasionally for entertainment and leisure purposes. A gig in London? Now, that trip is a bit cheaper with a railcard that takes 1/3 off your fares for a year, or for three years at a discounted price (now you can buy a bit of merch too!). The average annual savings is £135. You’re eligible for a card if you’re aged between 16-25 which includes those who have graduated or full-time students. I found it to be a worthwhile investment and it paid itself off within a month.
Why have a car to shell out for and risk being caught drink driving or get a speeding fine when you can zoom along with a hangover on the train instead. It is also an extra incentive to visit friends or family knowing that the price to get to your destination isn’t going to be as bad; especially following uni when you and your friends are all separated in far ends of the country.
